NIHRA ONLINE PRIVACY POLICY

OVERVIEW

Thank you for visiting our SHRM/NIHRA web site.  This privacy policy tells you how we use personal information collected at this site.  Please read this privacy policy before using the site or submitting any personal information.  By using the site you consent to the collection and use of this information by NIHRA.  If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on this page so that you are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it and under what circumstances we disclose it. Changes will only apply to activities and information on a going forward, not retroactive basis.  You are encouraged to review the privacy policy whenever you visit the site to make sure that you understand how any personal information you provide will be used.

COLLECTION OF INFORMATION

The chapter collects and maintains membership information as part of servicing your membership.  We restrict access to nonpublic personal information about members to the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the chapter Board, Chair and Committee members with a business reason to know this information in order to provide member services to our members.

Within our website, there are forms for members and nonmembers to request information, products or services.  These forms may ask for contact information such as your phone number or e-mail address, unique identifiers such as your SHRM membership number if available, financial information such as your credit card number or demographic information for example, your age, location, PHR/SPHR, SHRM-CP/-SCP certification designation, etc.  The information you provide is used to fulfill your specific request; for example membership applications, dues statement, meeting reservations, guest reservations, membership directory, payment by credit card for dues or meetings, survey data, registration and payment for conferences and mailing lists.

Other unique identifiers (specifically, your SHRM/NIHRA member number) are collected from website visitors to verify the user’s identity for access to restricted content or features on the site.  This information is only used to fulfill your specific request, unless you give NIHRA permission to use it in another manner.

SECURITY

We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure.  In order to prevent unauthorized access or disclosure we have in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.

COOKIE/TRACKING TECHNOLOGY

A cookie is a small text file containing a unique identification number that is transferred from a website to the hard drive of your computer.  This unique number identifies your web browser-but not you to SHRM/NIHRA computers whenever you visit the website SHRM/NIHRA Online.  A cookie will not provide personally identifiable information about you, such as your name and address. The use of cookies is now an industry standard and cookies are currently used on most major websites.  Most web browsers are initially set up to accept cookies.  If you prefer, you can reset your browser to notify you when you have received a cookie.  You can also set your browser to refuse to accept cookies altogether.  While SHRM/NIHRA does not require you to use cookies, keep in mind that certain services will not function properly if you set your browser to refuse all cookies.

To help serve you better, SHRM generally uses cookies to:

  • Identify return visitors.  Cookies let us remember your web browser so we can provide personalized member services.  This helps us analyze data about webpage traffic and improve our website in order to tailor it to member needs. 

  • Display advertisements.  SHRM uses an outside ad company to display SHRM approved ads on our website.  While we use cookies on other parts of our website, the cookies received with banner ads are collected by an ad company.  These cookies allow SHRM to manage the delivery of ads and do not collect personally identifiable information. 

Overall, cookies help us provide you with a better website, by enabling us to monitor which pages you find useful and which you do not.  A cookie in no way gives us access to your computer or any information about you, other than the data you choose to share with us.

Our website may contain links to other websites of interest.  However, once you have used these links to leave our site, you should note that we do not have any control over that other website.  Therefore, we cannot be responsible for the protection and privacy of any information which you provide while visiting such sites and such sites are not governed by this privacy statement.  You should exercise caution and look at the privacy statement applicable to the website in question.

CONTROLLING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

We do not share member or nonmember e-mail addresses or sell them to any outside parties for any purpose.  SHRM/NIHRA utilizes e-mail addresses for its own purposes of keeping members informed about chapter events and providing service, product and/or information announcements including answering the e-mail we receive.

We will not sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties unless we have your permission.  NIHRA may be required by law enforcement or judicial authorities to provide information on individual users to the appropriate governmental authorities.  In matters involving a danger to personal or public safety, NIHRA may voluntarily provide information to appropriate governmental authorities.

PUBLIC USE OF IMAGE (PHOTOGRAPH OR TAPE)

From time to time we may take photographs or videos of our events which may include your image.  By attending these events, you are providing your consent to participate in a promotional story, advertisement, and/or image (photograph and/or videotape) made for the Northeast Indiana Human Resources Association (“NIHRA”).  This story, advertisement and/or image (photographic or videotape) may appear in the public media, including print, Internet and/or broadcast media for a period up to six (6) years and may be used more than once for promotional purposes by NIHRA.  

Once information is disclosed, it may no longer be protected by federal privacy regulations.  This authorization is voluntary and may be revoked at any time by notifying the contact(s) below.  Such a revocation will not affect any actions taken before the receipt of said written notification.
