Professional certification is an opportunity to demonstrate your HR knowledge, strengthen your skills, and continue growing as an HR professional.
SHRM offers two credentials: the SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP®) and SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP®). Both certifications are based on the SHRM Body of Applied Skills and Knowledge (SHRM BASK®) and assess both HR knowledge and the ability to apply that knowledge in workplace situations.
Which Certification Is Right for Me?
SHRM-CP®
Designed for individuals performing HR or HR-related duties or pursuing a career in Human Resources.
SHRM-SCP®
Designed for experienced HR professionals whose work includes strategic-level HR responsibilities, such as developing HR policies and strategies, overseeing HR operations, or aligning HR initiatives with organizational goals.
Because eligibility requirements may change, prospective candidates should review SHRM's current requirements before applying.
Preparing for Your Certification
Preparing for the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP is an investment in your professional development. SHRM offers resources to help candidates understand the exam, assess their knowledge, and prepare for certification.
NIHRA is committed to encouraging and supporting local HR professionals pursuing certification. Watch for certification resources, educational opportunities, and information available through NIHRA throughout the year.

Already SHRM Certified?
Earning your credential is only the beginning. Maintaining your SHRM certification demonstrates an ongoing commitment to professional development and staying current within the HR profession.
SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP credential holders currently recertify every three years by earning 60 Professional Development Credits (PDCs) or by retaking the certification exam during the final year of their recertification period.
NIHRA helps make continuing education accessible locally. Many NIHRA programs and events provide opportunities to earn professional development credits while learning alongside other Northeast Indiana HR professionals.
When an NIHRA program is eligible for SHRM PDCs, applicable recertification information will be provided to attendees.
