Q3 NIHRA Newsletter
President's Corner
Welcome to our inaugural edition of the NIHRA Newsletter! Our hope is to utilize different communication methods to keep you as members informed and educated; investing in your career through our networking and resources. Long term, we hope this newsletter will begin to replace many of our announcements during the business portion of our meeting, capitalizing better on our time spent together.
This summer, your board has held two strategic sessions to celebrate goals attained and plan for the fall and 2019. I’d like to share with you some of the board’s accomplishments thus far in 2018:
- 82 new members have joined NIHRA since January. Make it a goal to introduce yourself to at least one new member this fall!
- Facebook group page was created to improve communication amongst NIHRA members about jobs, events, articles, and resources. Please join and share with your HR colleagues.
- Engagement with the community: we’ve brought you a regional panel of experts to address the Opioid Epidemic, and will be bringing additional community panels to you this fall to address engaging and including disAbled and military employees into your workforce
- For 2018, we provided (and are providing) you an opportunity to gain 13 CEUs for HRCI and SHRM recertification by attending monthly meetings and the May conference.
- The board has intentionally increased visibility of SHRM Foundation resources and State and National offerings. Carly Buchanan just received her entire State HRIndiana Conference paid for by applying for a scholarship, and we’ve to date given away 2 National SHRM Memberships and 1 State Conference registration.
- * Have you noticed? Our monthly check-in lines are shorter and more streamlined, thanks to our Membership and Technology Chairs partnering to improve your experience and get you networking faster!
I can’t say enough positive things about your board. They’re productive, creative, and engaged. If you are ready to get involved, or have ideas about something we can do, please reach out to me and I’ll get you connected.
Enjoy learning about the different activities planned for the fall

Diversity & Inclusion
As workforce demographics shift and global markets emerge, workplace diversity inches closer to becoming a business necessity instead of a banner that companies wave to show their commitment to embracing differences and change. Employees reap tangible and intangible benefits from workplace benefits, not the least of which include respect from co-workers and business gain.
